Default AOD Kickdown Linkage?

I have an 86 Mustang that has been converted to an 8cylinder using an early 80's carbed 302 and AOD from an LTD II. My question is - Is there any way to set the kickdown linkage? (It's not the TV cable type, it a solid bar type link) Any help would be great....

Default RE: AOD Kickdown Linkage?

I used to have an 85 LTD and had issues with my tranny shifting up too fast and lugging the motor. A Ford mechanic told me to put the car on ramps and crawl under and look for the solid bar coming down to the tranny. There should be a small bolt that screws into the bar and holds the bar in place, this is the setting for how early or late your tranny kicks down or shifts up. Loosen the bolt and move the bar down just a little bit and retighten the bolt then take it for a ride and try it. You may have to move the bar the other way, I can't quite remember which way does what, just mark the bar before you start messing around.
Have fun

Default RE: AOD Kickdown Linkage?

Thanks for the reply.... I have however found the information I needed... I'll post it just incase anyone else needs it.... The Chilton Manual says at operatin temp... makesure the kickdown stop is set to .01 to .08... then with the car off and parking brake set, put car in drive (makesure it held against the D stop - they suggest hanging a 4.5lb weight from shifter) then loosen adjuster nut on slide and let the spring push it all the way to the end then tighten (making sure there is no rust on the slide).....
