Default upgrades to an 86

any good tips for the first upgrades i should do to a 1986 mustang gt (5.0 H.O. rated at 200 hp) 5 speed? the only thing done to it so far is a K&N filter in the original airbox. It's got 76,000 miles and plenty left on the motor, so im looking for bolt ons. thanks

start with CAI and exhaust.. after that shoot for H/C/I = heads , cams , intake... also u can get performance out of tires / suspension work as well ... u could add all the bolt ons u wanted but if u dont have good set of tires and suspension it wil be useless because u wont have traction... so IMO id get a CAI, exhaust, do lil bit of suspension work good set of tires, such as rear uppper/lower control arms, CC plates, struts/shocks, and i like eibach drag luanch spring kit, then start looking for a good combo on H/C/I

www.summitracing.com + 5.0 magazines
best original performance thing to do is make sure the car is in top shape working order, full tune up, once its running gr8 then start with the mods... no since in modding something thts having problems id rathr have my car in top shape then mod it so u see the best results

take the heads off and takem to the scrap yard
buy some twisted wedge heads, by trick flow
put a ford motor sports x cam
or a comp extreme energy cam in it, dont go over 224 @50
you can leave the shorty headers on it but get some good flowing mufflers
2 1/4 is fine unless your gonna spray it more than 150 then id get some headers too
302s are touchy, you can throw parts at em until you go broke, and they run the same
dont go too big, and youll run good
302s dont have alot of torque, so dont go too big on your camshaft, or youll have too turn it up 7500 to get any power out of it
fuel injection,.. you dont have to go big on that either
or carb. i ran a faster time with a holley 600 vaccume secondary, with a screw in the side of it
than i did with a double pumper.
small motor, small parts, and youll run good
