New toy! What should I do with it????
Just got this 89 GT on Sunday, real cheap so I'm expecting to put some work into it. Haven't had a lot of time to spend with it, but enough to pick up on it's issues. Voltmeter in dash is flat, I checked voltage at battery, 13.6 running, and 12.2 off, so Im pretty sure the alternator is ok. Oil pressure gauge fuctuates sometimes, this scares me. It will drop almost below the normal range when idling, but kicks back up to normal when I give it a little gas, so I'[m pretty sure the gauge is ok. Hard to put into gear when it's warm, as I stated in another post, I suspect it's the cable. I know the rear seal is starting to go, it's leaking just a little. CEL comes in after about 15 minutes. I unpluged the battery to clear the codes, and it ran a lot smoother, but the light came on anyway. Was running rich until I replaced the air filter. Idles a little shaky. The EGR valve (I think it is, it's on the intake towards the passenger side firewall) has a vacuum line tied off. Any idea where it goes? This car had been modified at some point in it's life, the frame rails are tied together, it has a cobra intake, headers no cats header muflers that dump by the back seats. Oh, and the black Maaco paint job looks good from 5 feet. this car was color changed, so when it chips, it shows white. So where do I start?

compression test the block
check the oil pressure with an aftermarket gauge
get the car in the air and look at the frame
once you have squared away that the car runs/drives as it should, begin modding [8D]

Checked out your car domain, mine was a similar deal $1300. Haven't had time to check it out yet (gotta ork this weekend), but I got it to spin through second, so I'm betting there are no low compression cyls. I could be wrong, but if I am it's one baaaaaaaad asssssss car!

I'm in Fl. not much rust here. Back of the tailgate, which they usualy get, and slight rust dust around tailgate window sill. Bottom is clean. Didn't carfax (as it was only 1300 and I didn't think of it, probably should've)
Ebay site I'm posting was where I got it. Prior owner had movie of it, link is on ebay site.

Cool! I'm still in the learning process with this car, it's been a few years since I've had anything I would actually tinker with. Any 5.0 groups around? Shows? Swap meets?
