MT ET Drag radial question
I just recently bought a '90 v8/manual from here on the forum it needs some tlc since its been sitting around, but once I get passed fixing most of the wear/maintence items i'd like to take it to the strip to see what I got as a base run, as far as I know the car has a recently replaced clutch aftermarket 2.25"-2.5" h-pipes with hi-flow cats which I am removing, bigger TB(dont know what size), upgraded fuel pump(I doubt any power gains), wires/distrubuter, short shifter, and maybe rear end gears cause it seems like I shift a lot and it gets sideways a whole lot easier on the 225/60/15 in 2nd gear than in 1st..?
Now to my point I wanted to know if just going with a wide 275 street tire would give me enough traction to launch hard at the track? Or would Mickey Thompson 255/50R15 ET Street Radial Drag Tire or even the 235mm version be enough for this near stock stang? Or should I go with 26x11 or 26x10.5 full out slicks?

Wider regular street tires won't really help you at the track, get a drag radial.

go with a 235/60/15 ET Street... avoid slick at all costs, because they will make you break things. your car is not built to handle full on slicks.. id say youll break an axle first pass

Yea this mostly going to be my weekend toy car seeing as I work a litttle over 50hrs a week, right now its being prepped for paint at my brothers dealer/body shop, 1pc headlights and few cosmetic mods and thats it the rest all for the driveline and suspension, so you guys would recommend the 235 et street drags over the 255 et street drags? 255 to much grip for my current needs? What do you guys suggest as far as launching and rear air pressure with the MT's? thanks for the advice

I run a 255/50/16 on my 93 gt with a stock rear ex. for gears and it cuts a 1.71 60 foot time at the track a pulls hard as hell on the street. I run 4:10 gears tho. I would recommend these tires. But they arent the greatest in the rain.
