AC system gas removal
I'm trying to figure out how to evacuate the gas from the AC system. The Haynes manual i have mentions filling with more R-134, not removing existing gas. I'd appreciate an "AC eliminating for dummies" explanation. I'm going to be taking on this ploject this weekend. Thanks.

RE: AC system gas removal
The only way to do it in an environmentally sound manner is to take it to a radiator/AC service shop and have them discharge it, since most individuals won't have the proper equipment to capture the gasses.
If you're not worried about our environment, then just push the little schrader valve on the AC hose until there's not more whooshing sound.

RE: AC system gas removal
I was originally concerned about doing it myself. I didn't want the EPA to beat me up. I've checked with more than one reputable shop that says that R-134 wont harm the environment if released. The concern for the environment is a carry over from the old R-12. That might explain why it's so easy to come up with 134 do it yourself kits. I was planning on having my base hobby shop do it until they gave me the green light to do it. Thanks.
