Default OverHeating

So recently the mustang over heated and blew the one of the heater hoses. so i put the new ones on and filled up the overflow tank, which was bone dry. and now it doesn't want to let the coolant flow and it keeps heating up to about 260 then i shut it off?
What could i do to cycle the coolant? it just stays in the overflow?
What can i do?!?!?!?!!
1993 Mustang GT5.0

Thanks
Ted

did u open the radator and fill that? dont use the over flow as a guide to tell u if coolant is flowing.

replace the t-stat. and the best way to "burp" the system is to park on a hill or jack up the front of the car and support it with jackstands. get it running till its at operating temperature and then shut it off and let it cool. the air trapped in the system will find its way to the highest point in the cooling system... in this case.. your radiator. once its cool you can top it off and you should be all set

i've never heard of burping the cooling system like that. not saying it wont work, just never heard of it. when i do it at work i just put a spill free funnel on it and fill the radiator. what you can do is fill up the radiator and let the car run with no cap for a while
