Default speedo question.

ok so the speedo isn't working i've read to check the gear behind the speedo or the cable. First how do i get behind the gauge to check??

And i a side question is there a way to make a speedo out of a newer fox work?? Having a speedo that only goes to 85 seems kinda pointless was hoping i could update that somehow.

awwwwww poor speedo. i have an 83 mustang and i love my 85 mph speedo. anyway you gotta pull the top dash pad off then the steering coumnhas to drop down then youll see how to get the dash pod out. it makes it easier if you go into the engine bay and unbolt the speedo cable bracket to get more slack when pulling out the gauge pod. oh and yes,,, they make another speedo that goes higher.[&o]

I'd check the gear in the tranny first, that's a 5 minute job vs. the few hours for the cluster.

There is a cable that comes out of the side of the transmission that the gear is attached to. You have to loosen the fitting clamping the cable to the transmission, and it will pull right out. It's just a plastic gear.

yea and check the driven gear inside too. any t5 gear will work as replacment. just make sure you get the same teeth gear that you had. if that is the prob.
