i found that my armrest got in the way of my elbow on hard shifts into 2nd and 4th. i used the console delete plate that yours came with. when i removed the armrest it weighed about 10lbs. the factory delete for the armrest was only for a limited time, i believe 1990. not that rare though.

My 90 hatch has one... but my friends 90 hatch dosent. The things do weigh a ton for what they look like. mine has 4 bolts that hold it in place...

Deleted mine due to the latch and the interior. Yes you need to pop off those little oval plugs, unbolt two bolts on each side, and it will pull right out. Mine came stock with one (armrest), 90gt. I just post my arm up there instead of resting my arm there. Also now I can put a pillow there when I decide to take a nap during work when I got my backseats down.
