Best Route on a 302
What do ya'll suggest is the best route to get a 1990 302HO up to the 350whp range?
1. Stroke it to a 347?
2. Trickflow H/C/I Package?
What is the complete cost and what are the average HP gains of both methods? I want to find the best route to get my stang quick, but not go with a whole new motor or dumping over 6k into it.
I know this is most likley the most common repost in this section but i want to see your suggestions. I would go with a 351 crate motor but dont feel like having to get all new accessory pumps etc. and it will be a daily driver and rarley see the track. I want to get this 69 Mach 1 in the Low 13's high 12's.

RE: Best Route on a 302
TFS heads, E303 cam (or the TFS cam w/ similar specs), Edelbrock victor jr. intake, 750 carb, headers, 2.5" exhaust w/ hi flow cat, jacobs or MSD ignition. That should EASILY put you in that range. Thats a perty car by the way...........damn I need to find a '69 .... my fav year.

So with New Heads and Cam, That will get me up into that range? Or will the 600 Carb and Edelbrock Performer Intake hold me back to much?

The H/C/I swap will get you close to 300rwhp
H/C/I with 347 stroker with get you close to 350rwhp
On the 351W your accessories will swap over, you only need a couple of cheap brackets
read the following links, gives part numbers and everything
http://www.mustangworks.com/articles...n/351swap.html
http://www.mspmall.com/ddautospec/swapkits.html
351W pros over 347:
stronger 351 block, stronger 351 crank, half the cost of 347
new stock 351W short block (roller) ........... $750
Twisted wedge heads ............................... $1,100
GT-40 intake 5.8L Lightning ....................... $500 (ebay)
351W install kit ......................................... $500 ( oil pan, mounts, headers, ect. )
Lifters, pushrods, rocker arms ................... $600
Ford "F" cam.............................................. $150
Fuel pump ................................................. $150
all new sensors and gaskets ...................... $500
ARP head bolts ......................................... $100
Injectors .................................................. $300
TB/EGR/CAI ............................................ $300
Distributor for 351W ................................. $300
Caised cowl hood ..................................... $300
This will give you a brand new "crate engine" making 425-450hp w/ pavement ripping torque.
Total .................................................. .... $5,550 complete from airfilter to oil pan and headers and new hood.
Engine will still need to be put together, but this gives pretty close idea of total cost.
Probably missed a few small items too.
351W and 5.0HO have same firing pattern and most everything
swaps over, cylinder heads just use bigger head bolts and lower EFI intake is different
you can get the GT-40 5.8L off ebay or TrickFlow makes a 5.8L lower intake ( get it at Summit )
and of course the computer will need a "chip"
This will give you pretty close to 350rwhp, slap a 10psi blower on later and see 500+rwhp

just noticed you're carbing it.
stock 351W (roller ) ......... $750 ( stock 351 is plenty strong, beefer than 302 block and crank )
Ford "F" cam ........ $200
trickflow TW heads .... $1,100
you're done,
get a good intake and demon carb.
put you real close to 350rwhp

RE: Best Route on a 302
Ugh, this 347 or 351 has been plagueing me day and night. Now remember my car isnt a foxbody, its an old Mach 1. I'm either gonna bite the bullet and get a crate 351 and get pissed off on all the accessory stuff ima need to convert, or keep the engine i have now and just dump money into it.

RE: Best Route on a 302
if your going to get a 351 crate go ahead and get a 408 crate.
and what accessory stuff? most everything moves over and will mount in same place.
there's a guy in here with a carb'd 408 with AFR 205's making 425rwhp!!!!
