O.K so here's the deal. I am 22 and have been a GM fan for 8 years having owned 2 Trans Am's and 3 Camaros including a 12 second LS1 car. Well I just moved to Ok City from Chicago cuz my dad lives out here and he agreed to buy me a car to get me on me feet again.Well my budget is 4K and I have always had thoughts of owning a 5.0 Stang. So I found a white 91 GT with an AOD at a local dealer with 110,000 miles on it. I fired it up and it ran good, but upon further inspection I noticed it was leaking coolant pretty heavily and it was drippin off the pass side cat. So the dealer told me it was just a leaky heater core hose and that he would deduct it from the price. But I wasnt too sure so I asked him if I could drive it to the local auto shop that they work with 3 blocks down the road and have a mechanic check it out. I could have easily filled the coolant tank with water and made it a few blocks to have it inspected but he said NO! So I was like look, I'll take it to get it checked out and as long as its not a blown head gasket or cracked block theres a good chance I'll buy the car. But he basically said that he needed cash before the car even left the lot so, I basically said GO F*** YOURSELF and left. Seemed to me like he was trying to hide something. Now did I do the right thing? Im pretty sure that i did. But anyways... if someone has a 5.0 FOR SALE in the area please lemme know before I go buy another GM! I cant find any Mustangs out here older than 96. Thanks, and sorry for the long post.

yeah, ide say you did the right thing.. but what do i know, ask some of the people who work at dealerships, maybe they have some rules or somthing.

nah this guy that i know its an lx 5.0 convert. it has the newer headlights so its 87-93. he wants i believe he told me 1,200 or 1,300 for it. it has a blown headgasket on 1 side.

u should be able to find a rust free, good running stang for under 2 grand

for 4 grand u should be able to buy a pretty modified 5.0 fox

im gunna say this clearly as i can.. STAY AWAY FROM DEALERSHIPS. my friend worked for one and he told me some bad things.. anyway point is they will do ANYTHING for a sale.

craigslist, autotrader, ebay, cars.com are all good places to find mustangs localy

Definitely stay away from any car on a lot that is leaking something. You definitely did the right thing. Sounds as if the dealership was trying to hide something if they wouldn't let you take it to a certified mechanic and have it checked out. Keep searching. Remember there were a lot of these cars produced.

you def did they right thing keep looking you will find your fox. how ever if it had a dealer warnty on it and they said it checked out you could have always brought it back and made them fix it all for free. my friend did that with his 95 gt bought it and the whole brake system was shot and him and his dad knew that so a couple days later they brought it back and had it done under the dealer warnty

I bought my car for 4,000 with everything listed...and 112,000 miles. You should be able to find yourself a good Fox for much less than that.

IMO you definetly did the right thing. Anyone who is selling a car (dealer or private) and wont let you take it to your mechanic to have it checked out is trying to hide something. If I were you I wouldnt have baughten it. Also, like everyone else said. A 4k budget for a fox body is pretty reasonably and you should be able to find something in good condition for that price. Also, I am VERY pleased to hear that you are looking for Mustangs!

Ofcourse he didnt let you take it, once you look it over on a lift, a car that age will have a ton of stuff wrong with it, after knocking off for all the repairs the dealer is left with a 1000 dollar car lolllllllllllllllllll

hey man all i can say is take your time bro. like this stang's said there are a sh*t load of this foxes out there. Be patient u find one, it took me about 8 yrs. ever since high school. sure it might not be perfect condition but its nothing you can't fix. so dont give up keep looking.
