Default Tips for minor body work

I've found a mustang but it has its problems. There is a small spot of rust in a dent on the door. It's about an inch wide. What's the best way to go about fixing this? I can't afford much. There are also some dings on the hood where the paint is chipped and there is no rust. The dents here are small, tips?

BTW i havent bought the mustang yet im still waiting on the price.

the BEST way is to have a body shop fix it... not exactly the cheapest

+1 there. If the car is worth it, save up your piggy bank for a while and do it right the 1st time. Cheap backyard jobs usually won't last that long. You'll end up bringing it in to the shop anyway.

+1,if you don't know what your doing, there's a "possibility" you'll make it look worse,I'm a painter at a bodyshop, but if I didn't know what I was doing, and I liked my car,I would pay the $$$$ to get it done right..

Id like to at least fix it up enough to prevent more rust. I seriously can't afford professional work. I won't even be able to buy the car if it's over $4,000.

Even if you take it to a cheap shop, expect it to come out cheap.

If it is just surface rust, you can grind it away, cover it with bondo and primer it. This wont fix it permitly but it will do for now. If its rot then the part of the panel needs to be cut out and replaced.
