Default Transmission Won't Shift

I have a 1990 5.0 mustang with an automatic transmission. Lately the seal between the engine and tranny has been leaking. My dad pulled the transmission and replaced the seal. However, once he put the tranny back in it now refuses to shift out of low. He checked the kickback linkeage but it looks ok. I though maybe it had something to do with a vacuum line but he says he cannot find one on it. The tranny fluid is not low. Has anybody else ran into this problem? Any ideas on what to check?

Thanks a lot,
Dustin

It doesn't even act like it's trying to shift. It's like its stuck in low and won't budge. I would think something is not hooked up right as it worked fine before we pulled it. I'm just not sure what. A google search turned up saying check the vacuum line to the transmission modulator. I'm not quite sure where that's at or if my model even has it.

the lever that your shift cable is hooked up to, make sure its pushed as far forward as it will go when you hook up the cable. also make sure your cable isnt streched out or kinked or anything.

here this will help you.

All the cables look tight. In fact they are in the same position as before because we can see the markings on where they were previously hooked up. All the other gears work fine (reverse, etc). I also found out that when he power washed the tranny he was afraid a little bit of water may have gotten in it so he flushed it with some gasoline and put fresh oil in it. Don't know if that matters any. I wonder if a valve or something is stuck internally?

P.S. FiveLiterRiceEater I like that blue stang. Nice lookin car.
