Default 91 w/AOD trouble

I need some advice, my 91 LX W/AOD has been acting up. It upshifts rapidly, and when in overdrive the trans seems to slip, a friend told me to ajust the bands, another told me to check the modulator. I am not that experienced with transmissions, can anyone point me in the right direction? Barry

If it slips in OD and this just started happening I would suspect that the OD band is going out. WHen an AOD is driven in OD all the time it constantley shifts from 3 to OD during normal street driving. I would say it's rebuild time. I would also suggest if you do get it rebuilt, don't drive it in OD unless you are on the highway due to OD band wear...in other words leave it in D.

if you have a shop you trust i would have him look at it. if its starting to slip you would be better off fixing it now before it grenades.

First things first, check the fluid level. When checking it, the car has to be running. I bet its low. The AOD in my ranger does the same thing. It just wants to get itself into the highest gear possible. My trans has a leak on the front pump seal so its hard for me to keep fluid in her. And if it is full (which I highly doubt), change the fluid and filter. BTW, normal fluid service intervals should be no more than 20k miles. And if all that doesnt work and you need to get the trans rebuilt, make sure you get some trans line cooler flush, itll remove the metal shavings and other dirt particles from the cooler so you dont "infect" the new trans with old debris.
