Smoking bad out of exhaust

Smoking bad out of exhaust
When I really get on it, full throttle and bang in through the gears, there is alot of smoke comming out of my exhaust. I was thinking it was bad piston rings. Is that right? Or would something else like valve seats cause this?

RE: Smoking bad out of exhaust
General rule of thumb , blue smoke= burning oil (bad rings, valves), black smoke = unburned fuel (too rich, not fully combusted), white smoke = water vapor, some white smoke is normal, but if its thick and smells (other than normal exhaust), bad head gasket, cracked head, etc.

to test for rings... pull the PCV and rev it up... if you get a bunch of smoke comin out of the PCV hole then yeah... it's rings...

that is not always true because inturnal pressure will cause it to come out.... compression rings will put oil out the top and be pulled in from the valve cover thru the throttle body....find out what color....
