RE: K's to blow
kenne bell doesny have to spool like the centrifugal blowers. its power right off the line. would work sweet on a stroked 351 or just a reg 351 per say. i like myshifters theory on big blocks. i know a guy with a 69 camaro has a 502 in it. i dont even wanna get into that.

RE: K's to blow
I would rather have a turbo setup than a supercharger setup any day of the week.... but like myshifter said.... theres just something about big blocks that a small block could never compare too. A kid I used to know has a 69 Chevelle w/ a 540 in it..... all I can say is OMFG. (and it was his DD for a loooooong time)

ORIGINAL: myshifter
You got him starting with a 2000 dollar block to begin with and what you prescribed will be in the shop plenty
ORIGINAL: WizardBlack
To stick within his requirements:
a fully forged 302 or 351 with an aftermarket block using AFR 185's with a bit of massaging (or something similar)
turbo kit (may have trouble finding a kit put together that uses twins for cheap)
TKO 600 tranny (T56 takes too much money to get in the car by comparison)
AEM standalone or another full tuning solution
That'll drop ya in the big block built number range on pump gas.

Definitely budget the money for a MAP based full standalone. It can actually be fairly competitive in pricing to MAF systems on these cars since ppl spend so much money on MAF kits, etc. You'll gain a chunk of power with a standalone.

RE: K's to blow
there are some good suggestions so far, BUT if you're looking at a 351, why not stroke it to a 393 pr 408...you might as well have the cubes too. Then put boost on that w/ a safe tune and you're easily under $10k and well over 500rwhp. You can use the rest of your $ for suspension upgrades since you'll need them
