Default ticking noise?

89 gt, stock 302 short block, arp studded. Has an f303 cam .512 lift, 288 duration. Ford 1.6 ratio roller rockers. I've had the car for 2 weeks and i've noticed a ticking noise coming from under the left valve cover. I thought it was an exhaust leak but its def coming form under the cover. I called the guy i bought the car from and he said he had noticed it and it would sometimes come and go. He also only drove the car about 900 miles a year. he said he thinks the roller rockers might need an adjustment. That wouldnt surprise me because it has hardly been driven.

Its not a hollow knock or anything like that, just a tick, almost like an exhaust leak. I cant tell if its getting louder or if i just really notice it more now. Any ideas on what this could be and is it dangerous???

put your thumb on the valve cover and make sure a rocker isnt just tapping the cover when they get hot. Its prob a loose rocker. Just take the cover off and wiggle each one, they all should be slightly loose. But youll feel the one thats making the noise.

You can also put your ear down there while the engine is running if you can get close enough and tell torwards which end of the valve cover its coming from. Its kinda hard to hear with the F cam, i have one to But you can do it.

get a shop rag out, take off the valve cover, and get somebody to crank the car after you cover the rockers with the rag. stuff one end of a 12" long piece of small tubing, plasitc or rubber preferably, in your ear and direct the other end toward the rockers. this will help you pinpoint the noise.

you may also have a collapsed lifter.

I pulled the cover and everything looks and feels good, nothings hitting the valve cover and the rockers are all snug, there is a little play but nothing is loose. It did stop the other night, i really got on it and went to like 5500rpm and i didnt hear it the rest of the night. Oil level is also good. I think i'm gonna have it checked just to be safe, I dont have time to be pulling it apart right now.
