Eliminating smog pump

RE: Eliminating smog pump
The smog pump's on the bottom right isn't it? That would be as if you were sitting in the driver's seat and that's the left side. Also if you take that off what do you do to the lines coming out of it? I know they go back to the block/heads or right around there, can't quite picture it right now.

just bypass it with a short belt and leave it on...bypassing the a/c might be .5 hp as there is little drag with it as the only benifit is only the wt issue and then if you have the spare tire in the car you would do better to remove it

OK, when you talk about sides the driver's side is the left side, I was just trying to clarify it cause a lot of people seem to talk about sides as if you were looking at the engine. I just didn't want to get people trying to tell me it was on the other side.

RE: Eliminating smog pump
the smog pump is on the passenger side of the car. it is below the alternator. and heres how u remove it .
ok heres how u take off ur smog pump. 1. remove the belt. 2. remove the 2 bolts holding the pump on. 3. remove all the tubing and hoses connescted to it. 3. cut the 2 vaccum lines shorter if u want, it looks better if there shorter and plug them( i used 2 small screws). 4. use the one hose that is bent kinda like a u, i trimmed this hose so it was a perfect u and connected the tube from the heads to the tube that goes down to the h-pipe, if u trim it it works perfectly and use hose clamps to hold it on. 5. If you have already removed ur ac also then a 71" belt will be the belt u need to use. be sure that you reverse what side the belt goes around the water pump though. stock it comes up on the right of the water pump, on this u need to make it come up on the left side. and your done.
