Default CAM idle is gone??

Hi everyone I don't remember if I ever posted here or not but now I feel like I need to. Well to start off I got my first mustang or more importantly first car with some guts about 1 1/2 months ago. When I got it I was told it's an EX-CHP... It's got the 160 calibrated spedo and door sticker with the 6 digit DSO number and the door sticker VIN matches the VIN by the windshield so I was like ok this must be a real ex CHP. He told me it has 3:55 rear gears with POSI and also it has an E-303 cam with a different MAF not sure but it's not stock. It has calibration info engraved on it. Now my question is after trying to get it smogged it failed so I took it to my local mech. shop and left it there for half a day. Why do I not have the 'CAMMED' idle anymore??? It costed me 170 bucks and they told me I need new cats because the high flows were no good and O2 sensors down streams and up streams... My car had the lopy idle of the E-303 before taking it down there and it didn't hesitate or anything when mashing so I knew the timing wasn't off too much. The smog guy said it was off only 5 degrees... What would cause the car to sound like it doesn't have the cam anymore?

california highway patrol used mustangs in the 90's as cop cars. I would be double checking what they did if you have the knowledge

Yeah I would check it out yourself. they might say 5 degrees, but I had a "mechanic" set my timing when I first got it running, well a month down the road found out he set it at 24* advanced...I was wondering why I could ONLY run premium gas.

Advancing the timing drasticaly changes the idle. When i run 15-16* timing it sounds like a stock 5.0. Then when when i run 9-10* timing it sounds mildly cammed, close to an E-303 cam.

Well that sucks cause after I got the timing set right it didn't idle like it had the CAM anymore but it was weird because when I tried to retard the timing to see if I could get it to idle like to see if thats what did it, but when I would rev it would do nothing but bog. And I mean it sounded identical to the E-303 and it didn't bog or anything it ran fine but now it runs fine without that idle and I hate the idle now

Hate to state the obvious, but maybe the cam is stock. A rough idle does not a cammed motor make.

No what I said was it sounded exactly like the E-303 And it pulled all the way to 5500 without any problems. It also idles at the SAME rpm it use to just doesn't LOPE. I know what a CAMMED up engine sounds like and everyone that heard my car said yep it's cammed now were all like wtf 170 dollars and it sounds like they took the CAM out.

To add in, I know it's not stock because my car is 93 which is suppose to have less horsepower I don't know if the CHP mustangs had more or not but O smoked my friend's 88 GT I smoked it as bad as a WS6 smoked me so something is up... My friend in the GT said he tried as hard as he could and got all the shifts good I just flat out out powered him so it has a CAM I want my proper CAM idle back what should I do?
