yea my gear dont howl, and I used cheap motive gear 99 bux special on the gears, no noise whats so ever, Motive are actually a really strong good brand of gear, lots of people that have them have no problems with noise or breakage... Man sorry to hear about the shop screwing you, Ive had the same problem in the past when I got gears installed...just live and learn, and tell everyone that there shop sux's and nver use them again LOL

Thanks folks. Actually, I don't think it's my gears howling--they fixed that portion of the problem. I think it's my pinion nut preload. Before, it would howl on acceleration at the same rpm in fourth and fifth gear, and the howl increased in pitch with rpms. The car doesn't do that anymore. Now, if I accelerate through the gears, there is no noise. But if I take it to 2k in fourth, and then back off the throttle a bit, it sounds like someone is blowing across the top of a bottle.
