Default Paint and paint prep questions

So i went ahead and started prepping for paint today. I spent about 4 or 5 hrs sandin on it and got quite abit done. I am using a 6" DA sander with a 20 gallon compressor. (its always runnin) Sanding the clear off with 400 and getting the rough stuff taken off with 180 and after that going over it all again with a scuff pad. ANYWAY, i just want to know if i am doing this right cause it seems too easy. I just figured it was harder than it is. Im painting it the same color so all i have to do is take the clear off right? Sorry for the long as s post but im gonna go sand some more 2morrow and just wanted to make sure im doing this right and if theres anything im forgeting. Thanks

You don't neccessarilly have to take the clear off per say, just get it really dull with 400 like you have been.

ya,you just have to have a dull finish,as for the bumper,I do the same everyday at work,I have a sealer I somtimes put if its bad but,if you sanded it with 400,you should be ok,depending on the color, silver's and golds show alot of that kinda stuff,if you do a final wet sand, even better..but I'm guessing your going white, white is very forgiving when it comes to prep. work..

ya, im just gonna paint it white again. So i just have to put another couple hours in on the sanding and im done. I thought it was gonna be harder, but im glad its not. I guess its easier since im going with the same color. I wanted to add some color somewhere, but i cant think of anything that would look cool. Any suggestions? O ya i also am going to have the cobra y2k 3" hood.

yea youre just basically wanting to scuff it up to make it bond to the new base coat. id finish it up with 800 or 1000 grit.

ya, im just gonna go white and get rid of that ugly black stripe. I got a new bumper and new hood so i dk, guess i will just keep it all white. kinda boring, but makes it easier to paint. Hey ikey, do u think i should still go over it with 1k even if im going over it with the scuff pads?
