you fools, IF YOU RUN OUT OF GEAR, RUN A TALLER TIRE, PLAIN AND SIMPLE, GOD I HATE IDIOTS THAT ARE AFRAID OF RUNNING STEEP GEAR(4.30 and 4.10)...honestly people that say stuff like if you get 4.30's youll have to put it in 5th gear a by the end of the 1/4 mile....all I can say is they dont race or have never been to the track, if you going to run out of gear while in 4th, then run a TALLER TIRE, if you run a 26" tall tire, thats a very short tire to run with even 4.10's, it will break down like this, If you have 3.73's and you run a 26', when you change to a 28" taller tire it will make those 3.73s feel like 3.55's, so do the math, if you have 4.56's with a 26" tall tire, and you change the tire to a 29" it will make that gear run like 4.10's, if you run a 28" tire it will make those 4.56's run like 4.30's, PEOPLE DONT KNOW HOW TO RACE OR ABOUT GEAR QUESTIONS, You wouldnt believe how many people tell others to buy 3.55's because they thought 3.73 were to short, seriously there are idiots out there that magazine race and DONT know what there talking about.

dude, dont talk like you're the only person in the world that knows the concept of gearing.
i base my opinion on the tire size i use in the local class i run, its dialed into my head as 26' tire and thats all i think about. and besides not everyone wants to run a ****in 28-29' tire on their damn car, 26' tire makes a car look less intimidating then a tall tire but then again maybe i'm the only one that thinks this way.

i love people that act tough on the internet.

I believe the 4.30 gear and a 26 inch tall tire for the 1/4 mile for his car might be quite close given he has a 6800 rpm set up. I have 4.30 gears on a 28 inch tall tire and my set up is for 7000 rpm. It only goes through the traps at 6300/6400 and my mph is 125.69. I need more gear but I run this car on the street. With a 27 inch tall radial tire 295 50 15 it runs about 2200 rpm @ 60 mph. My bet is with the manual tranny he will be right around 6500to 6600 rpm on a 26 inch tire unless the 306 is making God like HP.

Taller tire will get more square inches of rubber to the surface of the strip.
The gearing is for the 'hit' off the line.
Why do you think that good Super/Stock racers always look at circumfrence of tire?
BTW, old car was 'all throttle'
