I wanna learn
Hello all ive always been into stangs but have never done much research cause never thought i owned one now im seriously considering buyin one but i was just wondering a few things. Im thinking about getting a 85 (efi not carbed) 5.0 i was just wondering can u bolt in the 4.6l dohc cobra motor from the later years?? Would it be worth it? I heard they are built to hold high hp from factory. This was just an idea. Also whats the difference in motors over the 85-93 mustangs? if you want to talk directly my aim name is twodoordime

RE: I wanna learn
lol, seriously anything is possible but it'll cost you big time. I believe your in the wrong forum to ask question. You should go over in the SVT forum b/c most of the guys here will just tell you to not waste your money and just get a ford small block crate motor. 333ci 347ci etc... Don't put a 4.6L in a fox body, its like one of those things that is just wrong for no reason but everybody knows it. Kinda like people screwn their sister and they know its wrong.
What exactly do you want to do? you can pick up built crate motor for like 3-4k, i'm talkn about like a 333ci crate motor, slap a blower on it and you'll easily be a 400whp++. the Cobra motor alone will cost you 7K(rounded up), if you hell bent on having a cobra crate motor than just buy a 96+ GT or cobra and go on from their.

I honestly wouldnt waste the effort. Yes, it would be something different but not worth the time/money in my opinion. If you have a lonely life and lost of cash to blow than go for it

RE: I wanna learn
agree mod motor is waste of money, but to answer your question: yes it can be done.
www.modularfox.com has all the info.
89 started mass air .... mo better
90 started air bags, no tilt colum, little better HVAC controls
94-95 new body style, same engine, little different computer, not as mod friendly as 89-93 but still ok
89-90 is 25th anv. edition.
go with 89-93 model, notch back are the lightest, have fewest leaks and strongest body.

to the guy that said 1985 werent fuel injected the one im looking at (buddy of mines) is infact fuel injected he said he had the choice and regret getting the efi one instead of the carbed in my first post it says its efi and not carbed...to everyone else thanks for the input, the dohc cobra motor was just an idea probably wont do it but it sounded kinda cool. It sounds like ill prolly change motor out to 89 5.0 if i get this stang. Thanks guys

RE: I wanna learn
I believe that 85 EFI's were Central Fuel Injected, Automatic Transmission.
Central Fuel injection is not very mod friendly compared to the 89-92 Mass Air EFI.
Also the later cars 90-92? have stronger manual transmissions.
If you do buy this car, and you do indeed have CFI, I think you can just pull the CFI throttle body piece off and put a carb on top.
Can someone confirm this?
