Determining the Differential you have?

RE: Determining the Differential you have?
his is an 83... i bet you have a 7.5 . The 7.5 has 10 bolts as does the 8.8 on the diff cover. The 7.5 however has five bolts above the center and five below. The 8.8 has 4 above the center, four below the center, and 2 right on the center.

RE: Determining the Differential you have?
Yes, I verified just a minute ago that it is a 7.5. So my next question is this: I would like to gear up to a 3.73 someday soon. Is this a good idea in a 7.5? Or, how hard would it be to swap the 7.5 for an 8.8?

A 3.73 swap is not a bad idea. The 7.5 to 8.8 swap I think is a direct swap but not certain hopefully somone else will chime in to verify or disprove the info I have given.

yes the 8.8 is a direct swap, i did it on my 86 when i converted from 4 cylinder to v8. direct bolt on, if you have the 7.5 inch rear end the suspension is probably different so id get shocks and springs from a v8 as well
