185's in my opinion. i like to leave it in gear a little longer- just buy a matching cam and rev it a little. very satisfying. Also i second myshifter on pretty much everything

Is it true that if you go with the 185's with the stock motor that you would have to check the flat top pistons for valve clearance.

You should check regardless of what anyone says, its so easy to check and sucks so hard if the piston and valve make love. 80thou minimum clearance. For example you buy a used mustang and you dont know it has a different shortblock from stock and overlook the fact that the piston might be a 0 deck, instead of the usual 30 thou in the hole. at 30 thou in the hole the piston to valve clearance WAS 85 thou, but now you lost 30 thou cause the piston is 0 deck, so you slap on some heads and let it rip to 6500 and miss 3rd gear, what happens next? Your tearing the motor apart again to see disaster. [:@]

you should build toward whatever suits your driving style. you don't want a cam & intake combo that only makes power above 3500rpm for a DD.

since the KB is a positive displacement blower, it makes max boost down low. this will compensate for an increase in runner volume. the added flow from a larger runner will do well in the top end.

that being said, i doubt you wind your DD to 6500 on the 1-2 shift.

personally, i would wait until i had the money to do it all at once, or i would get a loan to do it all at once. there is no way to get your cake and eat it too. you are either gonna have crappy low end torque until you get the blower, or you are gonna have poor upper rpm performance.

i would get a KB 2.2L blower and some 205's on a 331 with a solid roller cam...but that's just me. you do what you think is best and you'll be fine.

On a difficulty scale of 1 to 10, how hard is a head swap? im decently mechanically inclined. I have tools and whatnot and instructions can go along way. for a first timer though, what am i looking at?
