you're looking at.

pulling the upper and lower intake, with the distributor and fuel rails, pullin the valve covers, you'll have to take off the front accesroy brakets for the p/s pump, and alternator, a/c, and smog pump. then youll pull the heads. and like the manual says, installation is the the opposite of the tear down. throw the heads on with new gaskets, torque em. i dunno the torque specs, but youll need a torque wrench, and probably a torque angle meter/dial. put all the accesories back on. put the lower intake on. use some pipe thread sealent on those bolts so nothing leaks. blah blah you get the idea i hope.

its not hard, but it is. its time consuming. i'll give it a 3 on the difficulty scale and a 7 on the annoying/time consuming scale.

Well its my DD, and im gonna be modding it little by little. Im not taking out a loan, and i doubt im touching the bottom end / block for a while. Im mostly concerned with the top end, then a blower. I think ill be fine with 165s cuz it aint gonna be blown for a while.

dude just get 165's

the low end is where its at IMO

its a DD u want the torque down low less slugging on the engine

not to mention they make ATLEAST 80hp over the stock e7 heads even more depending on cam and some other things

u know what these make stock right? 225+80=305hp thats atleast like 280 to the wheels

im with ^^, 185s wont fit on a stock 5.0. I ordered my 165s today from Central Florida Motorsports ($1284 w/ free shipping but they're built to order) and I plan on supercharging it eventually, but I dont want to touch the bottom end for a while, or until it breaks lol. I honestly think the 165s are enough for a 302, and if not u can always have em ported to flow better than the 185s from what ive heard.

what are your total, future plans? just heads and s/c?
h/c/i s/c?
stroker kit, h/c/i, the works?
if you are planning on any of the last 2 i mentioned, go with the 185cc with the biggest combustion chamber you can get to keep the compression down. buy a forged rebuild kit with dish pistons and have it bored .030 and rebuilt with the forged 306 kit. then work on the rest. 1350 for the heads, prolly under 1000 for the rebuild kit
maybe 300 labor to have the motor bored and rebuilt
then you can just throw bolts ons on it whenever you get the cash.
if your planning to s/c this and get a bigger cam and intake, heads, etc. youll be alot better off doing the bottom end like this first. save you $$ and trouble
nothing like the feeling of knowing your motor is bulletproof

I plan on doing HCI then SC. its gonna be a while though. I wanna keep it a 302 though probably.

Also, while i have it apart, i think i might want to buy some RRs too. should i go with 1.6 or 1.72s????? If i do go with 1.72, what will i need as far as valve covers, intake spacers, or hood?
