Default Gt-40 crate engine

Friend of mine is thinking of getting one for his fox. He was just curious if anyone knows if these engines pistons are notched for bigger cams. and if not what is the biggest amount of lift you can run without issues with or withouth 1.7rrs thanks guys.

so than it should be around 345? Yeah his plans are the motor than if he has the valve to piston clearance putting a little stouter cam in the cam and maybe running a 100 shot on it when the need arrises. What do you guys think. would it be a decent little setup or is he wasting his time.

well its really nothing more than a stock shortblock with a decent head. If he wants to drop it in and play then rock on. I had aquired an old gt40 crate when they had iron heads at 285hp. If i remeber right I had around 130thou clearance with the B303 cam. He really should check it, dont take my word for it. Minimum is 80thou clearance

do you know if the aluminum heads are pedistal or stud rockers because he has cobra 1.7s on his car now and wants to know if with them and the b cam he will have enough clearance.
