Fiberglass hatch help
HELP.
I just got my car repainted and put on a fiberglass hatch. The stock lifters are too strong for the lighter weight of the hatch. (b.t.w the weight is in the sheet metal not the window, I picked up the window and it's far lighter than you would think).
Anyway I'm looking for some old lifters off a 87 - 93 hatch that aren't working for the standard metal hatch. I figure they s/b strong enough for my application.
I anyone has a pair please e-mail at "michael.mcgehee@jpmchase.com"
Thanks.
Here a couple of pics of the new paint:

RE: Fiberglass hatch help
The quality is very nice. Like all parts going onto a 15-year-old car it needed some minor work to fit. But from what I've heard and seen Cervini seems to be one of the best.
There are no metal supports (that I know of) inside the hatch, hence the problem with the stock lifters. Had I known this would be a problem I would have reconsidered my decision. However, I live in Chicago and rust is a problem here.
However, my stock hatch was in very good shape and was not rusting in the corners like they all do. I still have it if you are interested. (I can e-mail you pics).

I had to source lighter struts for my fiberglass hood.
The struts that came with the kit were rated at 60lbs each which would have snapped my hood in half. []
Use a weight scale to see what struts you'll need.
Good luck.

SMART! Good thinking with the scale a easy way to find out is take a fish scale, the kind the hooks into their mouths, that makes it real easy to ready the pull force.

RE: Fiberglass hatch help
JeffUtica ---- Thanks a lot for this. They were very helpful. They also told me that NAPA carries some of their parts.
