thermostat suggestion
I just got finished having my 306 built. Runs real strong, but the temp gauge (brand new Auto Meter) reads about 160-170. I'm thinking this is causing me to be rich since the computer enriches the fuel mixture until the motor is up to operating temps. And that normally is at 180-190, right?
I'm thinking I have a partially stuck open thermostat, so if I replace it, should I go back with a 190 or 180? Thanks for the input! |
RE: thermostat suggestion
I like my 180

RE: thermostat suggestion
go w/ a 180*

RE: thermostat suggestion
I was about to post a question surrounding this but maybe someone can fill us in. what are the pro's and con's of going to a higher temp thermostat?
|
RE: thermostat suggestion
Car will run warmer...cooler is better, I like the 180* helps with detonation and keeps the car cooler for summer. Don't know why anyone would like to run a 195*

RE: thermostat suggestion
Go with the 180 because thats where the eec goes into closed loop and once it gets to that temp its going to atleast stay that temp.

RE: thermostat suggestion
everytime ive seen someone runa higher temp thermostat, they're car has overheated and broke something.
thats somethin idiots do. |
RE: thermostat suggestion
A 180 will work fine. If you have your car properly timed and a cooling system rated for your power you are good to go.

RE: thermostat suggestion
so is running a 160 bad??
|
RE: thermostat suggestion
I wouldn't run a stat that low, you car wont ever get out of closed loop and you will run rich, 180 should be the lowest in these injected 5.0
