good deal or no????
alright so i live in central new york and am looking for a summer project. it just so happens that there is a guy in town that is trying to sell a 1978 ford mustang. so we stopped by and we talked to the seller and we asked him why he was selling it and he told us that he had to many project cars and was trying to get rid of one. this would definately be a project because the body needs alot of work, mostly sanding and a few dents here and there.from what i looked at there was little to no rust what so ever. the guy also told us that the engine was putting out about 400 hp and the last time he went up to the track he was running a 12.7 .this is what he told us that he had done to the car so far
- battery relocation
- fuel cell
- i believe he told us that the guy that he bought it from put an engine from another car he said it was a 305
-rear seat delete
- the guy also said that he had invested about 6 grand into the transmission, gears, axles and racing slicks.
-roll cage.
he mentioned other things as well but it is 3am and im pretty tired from working on my 2000 mustang. when i talk to him again i will edit my post.
first off the guy had posted $ 4800 and when i asked him about he said he would give it to me for $3500. the car sounded amazing and started right up no problem. so i guess my question is what should i look for before buying the car. is there anyway i can tell if this guy is lying. i am pretty good with new cars but not to good when it comes to the older models.
if anyone could give me a hand, i would greatly appreciate going into this purchase with some knowledge so that i dont get ripped off. and tomorrow i am going to go take pictures of the car to get a better response.
thank you again

RE: good deal or no????
Depends on if you want your project for street or strip. If you want it for street, feel it is a good deal, buy it, pull then drivetrain, part out the car and buy what you REALLY want. If he has that money in the engine and tranny, it may be worth it for that. The fuel cell is probably 1200 alone. If he really ran 12.7, he should have some record. Pictures, video, ticket stub, something! Me, I'm a classic guy. Not for me. But neither is a Dodge Charger. Matter of choice.
