Yeah, if you're going to use one of those, make sure to toss out the driveshaft they give you and get a hardened one. That way if your OP locks up, it'll break your distributor and shut off your motor, in effect, saving it. The crappy one they give you will turn itself into a pretzel, allowing your motor to run without oil.

Or you could get a Holley 12-810 Oil Pressure Safety switch which I install on any of my projects. It stops the motor in the event you stop getting oil pressure.

Im using the melling one that came with it. Its hardened. I think they actually stopped making the hi volume/hipressure pumps, now their one or the other but not both. Guess they werent a big seller. And as for the disty gear I replaced it with a bronze one so it shears rather than shattering the OP driveshaft. And the factory ones shatter into a million pieces, happened to my 79.....twice. Drove it home (5miles) with no oil pressure. Luckily I had a case of oil in the trunk added about 3 quarts and let the splash effect do its thing. Didnt really do any damage that I could see. Didnt measure it though.

We used to run 100psi in the 351 clevelands but there is no need for that nonsense anymore, a good pump, good relief spring, clearanced gears against the case and backplate and a stock-mild street motor will live fine on a standard volume pump. On the race engines we lose hp with the high volume pump, cause that amount of oil is not needed.

Yeah, you lose power, but I did it for my sutained high rpm runs, as ive run into problems when I dont get enough oil to the top end (seized a few valves) but that has as much to do with the kind of oil you run as much as if youre getting enough. Im thinkin I might go with a dry sump get up for my next 302 build. [8D] . But Ill only be able to go as fast as my wallet takes me.. And if my GF has anything to do with it i wont be going that fast. [&o]

I know I have 2 here M68HV - they may have....I'll have to check. They have that new line, Mellings Select. I haven't used anything from it yet...

On a stock or even mildly built N/A 302 there is no need for anything other than a standard pressure, standard volume oil pump.

just keep it in mind http://sbftech.com/index.php/topic,84.0.html

Oil pump may be loosing internal cavitational pressure from a worn rotor gear which drives the oil pressure. Replace the oil pump and check your history of the sending unit while you are down there....the small investment may be worth it's time.

Autometer Gauges wouln't hurt either......, but they won't help your Oil Pressure.
