alotta ?'s from a newbie
alrighty.....got a bonestock '86 gt vert with 5 liter and 5 speed and stock 3.08's . whats the best intake, heads, headers, exhaust, shifter, suspension upgrades, etc. Ive got about 800 bucks to spend and the car is waay to stock. Ive got another 4 months till i can drive and i can save some money till then, so anything under $1600 would be reasonable. ANY responses would be greatly appreciated. oh yea, the car is gonna be daily driven to high school every day and probably drag raced on the weekends.

Gears first, FRPP 3.73's... Edelbrock intake... Best heads, AFR's... Best headers and exhaust, it's personal preference... Pro 5.0 Shifter... Maximum motorsports suspension components... Good Luck and enjoy the new car...

As everyone says, gears are the best 'bang for the buck'. I'd probably go with 3.90's. You could also do your exhaust first (before the other engine mods) to enjoy hearing to fruits of your labor (money). Exhasut on a stock car will give you some excitment. I'm on a budget (like most people) and I usually do the 'little' things before the big things (even if they won't be apparent right away).
My daughter leaves for college in a month, $68 THOUSAND dollars for a two year program (year round so it equals a 3 year program)!!!!!! Is that nuts or what??????
(see why i'm on a budget?????)

absolutely do the gears first, along w/ a set of sticky tires. mickey thompson et street radials.
that'll run you the $800 right there, but you'll hang w/ some vettes and stuff. and destroy the rice.
then if money is probably gonna be a issue, look for a set of iron gt40 heads, you can get '93 cobra heads for $250-$300 all day long.
have the intakes slightly ported(too much intake port you'll lose air velocity and power), exhaust ported and polished, valve job (competition). you'll have about $600 in port work, but they will run great.and much better than a box stock aluminum head.
along w/ a cobra intake or real gt40 (any of the major intakes are really all about the same, makes no diff) you'll run extremely low 13's if not hi 12's. making roughly 300 hp to the wheels.
w/ a small blower or a little nitrous, you'll run real close to 11's
my buddies '92 GT (almost full weight) ran 11.60's on a box stock gt40 intake , cobra heads w/ nowhere near the port work i mentioned...just exhaust cleaned up, and decked a little (10 thousandths) 125 shot, 4.10's , et drag slicks.
your 3 biggest gains are these:
gears
heads
power adder (nitorus being best bang for buck)
and until your making 300 hp, you don't even need to upgrade the intake and stuff. won't do much for you, as your getting plenty of air already.
