Default overheating...

i have a 89 mustang lx 5.0 and i was on the parkway and my stang overheated so i got it towed home.. so i was told it was the thermostat so i took that out and it is still getting very hot fast and the water pump is also fairly new too..... any ideas....? thanks alot.. Bill

im having the same problem, probably your radiator, do a pressure test and see if your leaking anywhere.

And if it leaks, do no buy STOP LEAK. just a heads up. i used it and i regret it.

do you still have clutch fan? if so, with the engine hot try to turn the fan it should be
hard to turn if its easy to turn than the fan clutch is bad,

Yeah marx 91, but on the highway he doesn't need to have the fan running, just the water pump.
There's enough air passing through the radiator at 55 mph to cool it, so it's most likely something else.

^agree, so u took the thermo out and it still gets hot? did u put a new one back in? if u let the car idle can u see the water circulating in the radator?
