Oil pump shaft installation? Please Help

Oil pump shaft installation? Please Help
I know very little about ford engines and I don't know which way the shaft goes in the pump. One end has what looks like a metal skirt about an inch and a half from the end and a point on the end of the shaft. The other end is flat and no skirt. I thought the skirt end should go up to hold it in the pump with the engine upside down on the stand, but I don't know. Any ideas?

RE: Oil pump shaft installation? Please Help
The clip "skirt" goes on the pump side. That way when you lift the distributor out you don't drop the shaft down into the pan. Adjust ( slide ) the "skirt" as needed to allow the shaft to go all the way into the pump. With the "skirt" on the shaft you can NOT put it in from the top, has to go in from the bottom.
