Speedo Problems! Help me guys
Hey guys My speedo is messed up and has been since i bought my stang. It bounces around a lot especially at lower speeds but once i get on the highway its pretty steady. Its also seems to be off quite a bit. when i go a steady 25 the speedo will bounce rapidly between 30-45. There where new whiteface gauges in the car when i purchased it not sure if that did anything. also i checked the gears by rotating the tire and counting the driveshaft revolutions and found out that it has the stock 2.73 gears. Any ideas what it could be? any help is appreciated.

RE: Speedo Problems! Help me guys
88GT Kid,
I had the same problem when I bought my 88 mustang gt a month ago. Had white face gauges in it and a bouncy speedo needle. The first thing I would do is pull the cluster and check the speedo cable. Check both ends and make sure they still are keyed and not worn down, as well as checking the cable for binds or cuts. If the cable looks good, grease it and reinstall it. If the cable isn't messed up you probably don't need to replace it. If that doesn't help you out, from my experience it probably means its in the head of the speedo itself, which means you might want to check your local junkyard, or ebay for a new instrument cluster. But again, grease the cable and go from there. Might luck out and be an easy fix. Good luck.
