Default GAS MILEAGE HELP ???

My 91 5.0 convertible is getting terrible gas mileage. I know these cars aren't anything special on gas but im getting around 12 mpg around town and its F/I. The only things done to it are exhaust and 3:73's. I know the gears arent good for gas mileage but they shouldn't drop it like that I wouldnt think so anyhow. The car runs great and I've got new plug wires, plugs, and a cap and rotor. Could anyone give me some advice as to what may help ? thanks

how old are your oxygen sensors?
exhaust leaks will tell the computer there is too much oxygen in the exhaust and use more fuel to correct this.

Yeah I get terrible mpg, like 12 if I try hard, I got 60 on 1/2 last tank.. It was sad. I just opted to get new o2's we'll see how it goes, I say that because I did let my engine consume about the volume of a Double Big Gulp of coolant when I took my TB off and the TB to IAC gasket didn't seat properly.
