Default Beautiful plugs, no smoke, no leaks...

...and is still the fastest Mustang I've driven to date, yet it still takes its usual quart of oil per 1k. What's up with that? Would you be worried? I pulled my plugs today, just for jollies. They were all clean as can be. They were a uniform grey color, with no deposits, and all looked identical. The porcelain around the electrodes looked new. Where is the oil going?

I have the same problem. I was told maybe the valve guide seals, but not if your plugs look good.

Thanks for the reply, Jaggezz. I thought maybe it was the VG seals too. I switched over to Castrol High Mileage oil, thinking it would soften the seals, but it had no effect. It consumes the same amount as with regular Castrol GTX. Crazy.

those umbrella seals are like plastic at your mileage, does it puff a bit in the morning when the oil has a chance to leak into the cylinder overnight?

Not even a little bit. And I've laid on the ground and studied the exhaust right after startup--even had my wife start it and rev it, but saw no smoke.

I do, but they are from a leak that I just fixed. Problem is, fixing the leak seems to have had no effect on the oil usage. Thanks for the replies, folks.

The quart per 1k is normal? I'd like to think so, but others report that their cars use no real oil between changes. Sorry again about your car troubles, by the way.
