Check out this combo!!
Im planning on starting a 306 buildup. Im not an expert engine builder, but i have enough know-how, and friends that have built lots of engines. Im looking for a daily driver, that packs a punch on the street, while still being able to go to the track and have a good time. (mainly a daily driver/street car) Right now im just planning on building the engine, but there maybe some boost in the future. Like i said im not an expert builder, so my combination might not be very good so please post comments/suggestions on this set up to help me out.
Block: Stock block bored .030 over
Crank: Scat 4340 forged crank
Rods: Scat 4340 H Beams
Pistons: SRP Flat Tops
Heads: Edelbrock Performers w/ 2.020 valves, 60cc combustion chamber, 170cc intake runner
Cam: Ford Racing E 303 (Duration 282/282, Lift .498/.498)
Intake: Edelbrock Performer 5.0
Other: 1.6rr,70mm tb, cai,
Any ideas how much h/p this combination would make? Any help wold be great!

scrap the crank and put the money towards a better head. The block breaks before the stock crank, scat crank in that mild build is useless in my opinion. Ditch those heads and get a set of heavily worked wedges, then you would have something. As it stands, its not a killer motor. Flame away[sm=americanasmiley.gif]

looks to be an over built bottom end....apr bolts with some stock rods will be ok...cam choice is just terrible...just have the crank cross drilled and oil holes chamber'd..just use some upper end coated crank, rod bearings....a 351 would be a better platform

actually i would ditch the bottom end stuff for a stroker bottom end...if you already have the block..
heads?..trick flow or what i got afr 185's...
intake? rpm/rpmII....or go victor 5.0?
cam???? custom?..comp? lunati?...

since you guys know more about me about engine building, i will take your advice. next i was maybe thinking about the trick flow top end kit. it comes with twisted wedge heads, cam,rr,intake, maybe this would be a better solution to make more power. instead of the over-kill bottem end, maybe go w/ the eagle sir lightweight rods, stock crank, and some forged pistons to fit w/ the heads. thanks for the replys guys!

i would think that afr 185, rpm 2, victor or anything like that are way over kill for his set up. sounds to me like you want a mild street set up, with more of a kick in the pants in the btm end and less in the upper. with the 185's and stuff like that your going to suffer on your btm end... not a nice DD.
you could try something like... freshened up SB with forged pistons and get the TF top end kit. or you could pick and chose your pieces like: afr 165 / TFW heads, TF street / Performer intakes, TF stage 1 / e303 / or custom cam.
....... just my opinion
