RE: 88 140mph gauge
I Have An '88 With A 140 Out Of A '90-'93 In It. This Isn't A Really Easy Conversion, But It Isn't Really Hard Either. The Speedo Out Of The Newer Model Will Fit Perfectly Except For The Bottom Left Corner. If You Remember, The Newer Models Have A Slightly Wider Steering Column Than The Older Ones. These Are The Ones With The Air Bag And No Tilt. Therefore, The Instrument Cluster Has To Be A Little Bit Wider Around The Column Than Your 85 mph Setup. This Might Sound Kind Of Half ***, But I Don't Half *** Anything On My '88. All You Have To Do Is Cover Up That Little Gap In The Bottom Left Corner Of Your Speedo With Like A Little Piece Of Black Plastic. You Could Even Use A Little Piece Of Card Board. Like Off Of A Shoe Box And Take A Black Permenant Marker To It. Like I Said, This Does Sound Like A Pretty Half *** Way Of Doing This, But All You Are Doing With The Little Piece That You Put In At The Bottom Left Corner Is Blocking The Light That Would Come Through At Night. All That You Are Changing Out Is The Actual Speedometer Assembly, Not The Whole Instrument Cluster!! Once You Have Everything All Re-assembled, You Can't Even See The Little Piece That You Put In...Unless Of Course You Get Right Up Next To Your Steering Column And Gauges And Look Straight Down Back Behind Your Column Cover And... Anyway, You Get The Idea. Just Make Sure That You Get That Hole Blocked Off Real Good Or You Will See Light Shining Through At Night. The 140 Will Already Be Internally Calibrated So That You Won't Have To Pull The Gear In Your Transmission To Get The Right Speed Indication. That Is, Unless You Have Changed The Wheel/Tire Size From Stock. Unless You Have Like Put On Some 12's Or Something Stupid Like That, You Should Still Get A Pretty Accurate Reading. I Changed The 85 Out Of My Car About Four Years Ago And It Still Works Fine To This Day. Hope This Helps...
