$1,600 was for complete removal, rebuild and reinstall. $500 for engine swap is about right if you're getting one off the shelf for little over $1k
and thats with 3yr warranty.

1,600 for a stock rebuild are u serious u can buy a rebuilt punched .030 over from oreillys for a little over a grand and have a one year warranty i gotta guy here that will build me a 347 with guaranteed 350+ hp for less than 2 grand

Like here, dudes are wanting work...hence the reasonable pricing.
Larger Metro areas like LA, Phoenix, Dallas, etc...people are proud of the work they've done in the past and want YOU to pay for it.
Shop around, there are deals.
