Default Overheating, Please help.

I have a 92 302. As I was driving it, it overheated and blew water out ot the overflow on the radiator and would not take in any water. I thought I blew a head gasket, so I replaced them ( they didn't look like they were blown). I just got it all back together and it still overheats. The engine will be hot, but the coolant in the radiator seemed to be rather cool. I have replaced the thermostat and I know it's installed right. I bypassed the heater core, replaced the temp. gauge sending unit, replaced the fan sensor. Nothing seems to work. What could it be?

The water pump is from stewart components, it has maybe 5,000 miles on it. No leaks in gasket either.

hey Carter I had your same problems with my 302 a few years back, replaced the head gaskets, thermostat, hoses, water pump, temp gauge unit etc.... Still over heated... I went and bought myself a Steeda 3 core and the car has never over heated since..

Hope you find the problem it sucks I know...

Did you test the thermostat? Even though it's new it might be bad. Suspened it in a pot on the stove a boil the water to see if it opens and use a termomator to see at what temperature it opens. Also, make sure there's no air in the hoses. Squeze em while your filling the radiator.

Also you may have a block somewhere in your cooling system. Have you flushed the whole thing? That might be your problem. Also does it make like a clicking sound after you've run it for a while and turn it off?

I had the same problem ... Like Mello said, get the 3 core radiator, doesn't have to be from steeda, just anything performance ..
After i got it installed, the coolant temp. never went above 190 maybe ..

Hope this helps ..

if There is no more mods than what you have listed on the car then the radiator would not be the correct fix for the problem and would usually result in more down the road. it is hard to sit here and say it this and that. i would take it to a garage that you have heard good thing about and have them check it out to be on the safe side. I still have the stock raditor and never had any problem overheating. i ran a 12.92 withit and no problems. if there is something stoping the coolant track up and not letting it flow properly what do you think it will do to that expensive raditor?

this is a real SWAG, but check the front of the radiator or AC condensor if you have one to make sure the air flow to the radiator ain't beening restricted by leaves, dead bugs, dirt, etc. back flush the fins on both with a high pressure garden hose.
you might also check the lower radiator hose to make sure it hasn't collasped on the inside and is choking off the flow from the radiator to the water pump since you say the pump is relative new. you did get a pump with the reverse rotation for a 5.0 didn't you? this could also be the source of your problem.

I'd say it's a good chance the rad is stopped up..pressure test it....I'd say the H/G you did was a waste of time and $$$ always check the cheaper, easier stuff first....pull the stat test the flow..also go buy a hi flow stat perfer a 180 the stat will also have a small hole in it to get rid of a airlock/bubble..good luck
