What goes into an engine rebuild?
When I get a Fox I plan on doing an engine rebuild later in the summer. I'll have ~$1500 to spend...but in general, what goes into an engine rebuild?

Never built a car motor before, but as for bike motors, they are considered "fresh" when the following is done:
Piston rings or pistons and rings
Cylinder hone or bore
valve seals
valve guides (if sloppy)
valve lapping (edit)
timing chain (edit)
crankshaft bearings
gaskets
If I'm forgetting something, I'll add it as soon as I remember.
Oh yeah, we used to clean and then lap valves in order to restore a fresh valve seal. This was done often. Less often, on some motors, valves had to be replaced. This was mostly due to carbs being set lean--people like to change their exhausts/air filters and not bother to re-jet. At any rate, this should give you a rough idea about rebuilding motors in general.

btw: i was recently quoted $1,595 for a complete drive it in and drive it away
stock engine rebuild, inlcuded 3yr/36k warranty, re-use all old hoses, accessories, sensors, ect....

I dont plan on doing a performance rebuild...going to keep the stock 302 bore. I may throw a cam, headers and heads on it while the motor is out, but that's about it. How much am I looking at? I want completely driveability as it'll be my daily driver.
