My neighbor had a perfectly running 460FE engine that he pulled from his 77 Ranger Truck. We're currently in the process of building a small block that will produce more low end torque than the 460. That's what his decision was and that's what he's sticking to. He offerred me the 460 for my '91 and after reading up on what it would take to make it happen, I politely declined his engine.

I agree somewhat with the abovementioned statement about small blocks. You can have the best of both worlds (reliablility/HP) with them. It's just like everything else...."variety is the spice of life" and "everybody has an opinion."

If you wanted to make a straight line car, the 460 wouldn't be a bad choice though.

My two pennies,
Ivan

Unless you drop a stroker kit in a 460, there is NO POINT in putting one in a fox unless you are ALL OUT RACING the car. They dont produce big blocks anymore because the technology exsists now to produce the same results from a smaller package. Vic jrs flow as well or better than some big block heads. Ford FE engines are early sixties technology. Ive drivn his 460 car in the 1/8' it ran a 8.2. He was beat by a 65 coupe with a 347 in it with AFR 125's and an E cam. His car has stock heads, no port work, headers, a Vic jr intake, a Demon 750 and a bunch of other stuff, he had no traction, handles like a complete boat now, is no fun whats-so-ever to drive. If you know what your doing building a small block these days to run laps around a big block shouldnt be any problem anymore.
Im done with this thread, you are completely clueless. Your buddy built a junk, thats the big blocks fault? Im always ready for the small blocks to run circles around me, unfortunately, it hasn't happened yet.
"grumble, grumble,squab,squab".......

Come on MyShifter, tell us how you really feel...

Remember....."to each their own."

If everybody ran a big block, carbed set up, then we'd all be like you. That's what makes you special Sir. Be careful what you ask for, you may end up having mad kids running around with Big Block swaps on '07 GT's.

the misinformation is the crack up of the whole thing. Guy builds a big block that is a dog, wow shocking news that it's slow.

i know there is no replacement for displacement, but come on. n/a small vs. n/a big we all know big will/should win.

big blocks are more weight

chevelle SS 454 ran what high 12s/13s?

u could get a 302 in the 12s with a head swap

i dont think shifter wants to accept that technology is out performing the old. its cool hes into big blocks but he is overly bias with his opinions..

u get more torque out of the box with a big block dosnt mean a small block cant catch up though.

But I would still rather have a 600hp big block than a 600hp small block
