newbi with lots of questions
Hey guys, im new on the site. i built a 347 for a project i had to do in school a year ago. motor has been sitting since cause i havent had the money to get the car. (only reason i built the motor was cause i had a motor and got some real good deals on parts). Anyway i have a 4cyl car to drop it in now, ive got the motor trans and rear. i know about the computer and harness, trans and rear. but what else needs to be done to swap the 5.0 in a 4cyl car?
next, the motor is a stock roller block, but had a flat tappet cam in it (came out of a truck). h beams with srp pistons depending on what heads i get should be between 10.5 to 11:1 cr. looking at the afr 185s, a ford racing F cam and the edelbrock performer intakes. also planning on spraying a big shot, fogger and might do a two stage fogger and TB plate. not sure about all that. have roller lifters, 6.250" pushrods (right size for a roller set up?) and the little bed plate or whatever its called for the roller lifters. anything else i need to know about switching over to a roller set up? does the F cam sound like a good cam for this motor? cant run too much lift.
i know its a tons of questions, so any help from you guys who have done this stuff before is reall appreciated.

Just do a search, its right underneath the banner up top. This link is still pretty active, its only from a few days ago. Hope this helps. (its only a 302 swap, but youll get the idea)

Watch your piston to valve clearance w/ the F cam, 185's, and your pistons. If the pistons aren't notched for the head you're running you may have some clearance issues w/ the 347.......

RE: newbi with lots of questions
Exactly what I was thinkin, TFS is the only head manufacturer that claims you dont have to fly cut to run a .550 lift cam. So Im assuming that with the F cam youll need to flycut. As for what youd need to put it in the car, motor mounts, radiator and hoses, double hump oil pan, exhaust manifolds (headers), radiator fan, fuel pump, alternator, ps pump bracket, coolant overflow tank (if its different than the GT) and if I were you Id also get sway bars off of a GT. Thats all I can think of for now that you maybe havent thought of.

I also say that b/c TFS's suggestions on the .550 lift are on a 302....I don't know how much closer a 347 will be....there may be less clearance....I would think so w/ the longer stroke.

RE: newbi with lots of questions
the pistons are notched for a normal inline head, not for anything like a twisted head, and i think the f cam has about 480 lift. the piston comes to the top of the deck so it would be close. i guess maybe i could call srp or something and find out how much lift i could run.
