Default Heater Core, Need Help

So, after my heater core spit antifreeze on my foot and floorboard, I decided to yank the bastard out! I started today by taking off the dash pad, glove box, and now I'm onto the instrument panel. I'm am following my chiltons manual, which sucks by the way. My issue is this:

My car has A/C, which doesnt work very well, and for a heater core removal the chiltons says, "Removal of the heater/air conditioner housing requires evacuation and recovery of the air conditioner refrigerant."

I dont want to deal with that crap! Do I have to touch it? I havent quite reached the heater core yet. Plus, I am looking to take out the A/C anyways.

Anyone know what I need to do here? Can I combine a heater core install, as well as the A/C removal in one turn? I need an A/C eliminator kit right?

Pictures of anyones removal/install would be great too!

Thanks everyone.

did mine on a 93 gt. took me and my dad about a total of about 6 hours. it was our first time too. but you dont have to discharge the a/c. just take the bolts off of the tank thingy (hahah) and bend the little ears back and its out of your way. you also dont have to take off the dash pad and everything like you said, we just took out the whole dash assembly, and let it hang saftly while we took the core out and replaced it. like i siad before it only took us about 6 hours to do the the whole job. good luck.
