Default Rebuilding transmission

I have to get my 5 speed in my 90 lx rebuilt and I was wondering if there were any performance parts that I would have put in there or moods I could have done to it while it is out of my car and getting worked on. Are there performance gears that can be put in the transmission or gears that would need to be put in if I wanted to up the hp passed a certain point?

Dude youre better of just buying a used one, as it will be cheaper. Ive blown up about 18 T-5 trannies, and Ive found that buying a used one is cheaper. Get it estimated for rebuild at a shop and youll find that you can almost purchase a new world class T-5 5 speed for the same money.

why not just rebuild it once right the first time?

G-Force rebuild kit will make your T-5 good for 550-650hp
www.astromperformance.com has G-Force kits and transmissions
and they only cost about $600 more than a rebuilt T-5

Well the parts that usually failed in my trannies was the output shaft. A new output shaft from Ford is roughly $500 (if not more), for that price you can pick up a decent used trans. I wish I still had some of the ones I thrashed, some of em were so bad after I was through with em that even the case of the trans needed to be replaced. Some of em both the input and the output shaft were toast. I even had one completly lock up on me at 70 mph, locked the rear tires up. So when I added it up, new output shaft $500, synchro and bearing kit $250 (?), New world class T-5 $1000(?). Its just better to get a new one. T-5's arent good transmissions, they dont take HP or heat very well (because of the ATF/synchromesh). I even tried to extend the life of the trannies by runnin a mix of 50% 80w90 and 50% atf/synchromesh. It helped a little bit, but eventually those would go too. Just my experiance with em.

I agree about the Gforce. Your link has an "m" in it.... www.astroperformance.com

A guy here in Dallas rebuilds T5's w/ the Gforce kit for ~$1400. Well worth it if you ask me. And you can get a .59 5th gear which will give you the same advantages as having a 6 speed....lower hwy rpms.....

t5's fail from launching. my tremec 3550 has a broken output shaft from launching.

for t5s you can get a bunch of different performance parts. just look around on ebay or ddperformance.com maybe.

TKO 600 is just as good as the G-Force T-5 but you have to buy a new bell housing, yoke and driveshaft with it too, right?

Yes, you do need all that extra stuff to run a TKO in your car. I personally plan on getting a g-force upgrade/rebuild kit. Everything looks stock, and you don't need to buy all that extra junk just to make it fit. Here's a link to the G-force site. http://www.g-forcetransmissions.com/default.htm Check out the gear comparisons and stuff, its pretty crazy. If you aren't going with a TKO of some sort I would go with a G-force.
