What part of the NE are you from. I've seen some Mustangs around for sale in NH.

for what it's worth, I have always read and heard that the heads on the 86 5.0 are the worst heads they ever put on a 5.0 engine, so that might affect your decision to buy one also. personally, I would go for a 89 or later one so you get the benefits of EFI and mass air flow measurement which started with the 89 model year. speed density version like my 88 don't let you do as much with the engine as you can with mass air.

Check out autotrader.com I've seen some on that. Any roundman's right about the 86 heads, plus they have flat top pistons so if you want to go with a nice cam later on you don't have the same clearance.

i own an 86 and when i bought it i had the same delimma what to look for ect ect. If you feel like doing a lil bit of work to them they are really nice cars i mean when i got mine there was some rust on the floor board under the doors and the hatch but i fixed all that and now its half primered lol... But it will be painted when im done with the body work but persoanlly i like the body style of my 86 hatch over the 87-93's

yea, I've come to like the 86's better too, it's just a different look with the headlights. A little more muscle car then sports car.

No luck with autotrader so far. Still looking. I heard to stay away from 93's becuase "they come don't come with the forged pistons that previous years do" is their any truth to this?

yes 93 doesnt have forged pistons, hypertunitic, they are not as strong but are lighter. But go with 89-92 if you want Mass Air, or you could just convert a 87 or 88.

The kits to convert are about $300 or so I think.

Yes, 92 was the last year for forged pistons.
