90k miles is pretty good. The new paint could be a really nice thing or it could be hiding some half-assed body work or an accident. Everything else sounds good though. The places you wanna check for any rot is around the base of the fenders and the bottoms of the doors. Also the edge of the trunklid or around the wing if it's a hatchback. You also wanna look for signs of wear that it's been run hard. Let us know how much he's asking.

if all looks good and depending on how much you like to barter you could start with 3k, but I wouldn't have a problem paying 3500 for it. If he's a nice guy and you don't wanna give him a hard time or whatever I would guess with that asking price he'd take 3500. Also that is for up here around NH, don't know if you're somewhere that there are a lot more of them. There's a good number here but probably more if you were somewhere down south or out west.

I got my 86 from my boss who bought it from NC. He got it painted all one color unlike it was originally, trim and all, looks good, more modern. Rebuilt tranny, higher mileage, but it's all original except for the H-pipe and flow and 3 " Stainless tips. Nice cars, excpet for the wheels they put on from the factory which I have. Looked good I'm sure back then, but not now. i paid $4000 for a car that he had $6000 into, I don't regret it.

eh be careful, did he paint it? cause if he did he could be hidding rust,,,if he did paint why? If there was rust did he pur 15 it? cuz if he did not it would just bubble through the paint...and why is he selling it?

Yea, like I said above and 88LXKid said make sure you find out why and where it was painted. Ask him if it had rust and if it did how was it taken care of. Mine's painted all the same color too, def like how it looks. I need paint this summer cuase the guy I bought it from left some crap when it was painted last, not bad and I've had it for 2 years now and it's just starting to show.

Yeah, regular paint doesn't adhere well to the trim. Mine's chipped in spots where road debris can no way can to it. But I have a can with the paint that was used to paint the car with so I can touch it up. The car is spotless except for the hatch. Being a southern car, it's starting to bubble in odd places. It's in places taht other mustangs from up here don't start to rust, the bottom and up. It was repaired when it was painted but came back five years later! My fix, fiberglass hatch sooner or later.
