Default free/cheep mods

OK on my 87 5.0 HO I picked up today I took it to the track and ran a 15.1 @ 93.33

from what I can tell the car is all stock except for a set or stock looking headers (very thin tube headers)

what can I do that is free/cheep to gain some hp's

I plan on doing:
full strait 2.5" or 3" duel exhaust with a pair of glass packs (prolly keeping the headers on it)
plug wires (8mm or larger)
new plugs
new cap and rotor
msd coil

change oil prolly using 20W50 either castrol or mobil (not synthetic)
change fuel filter (if external)
change out my diff and trans fluid (5spd) (what fluids do u recomend for these)

anywho just wondering if there is a air intake and filter kit u recomend so I can rid myself of the stock air box (or has that shown to be a good box?)

any more info would be great i have roughly 200-300 to spend this week on it and I want to do the best things first (however the most for the money)

If you save up a couple hundred more you could get a trick flow track heat manifold, I think it cost $460 and would definitly be better then just doing a cold air and full exhuast which is way more expesive. A tune up may help, don't know how well the previous owner maintained the car. If you bump the timing up to 14* base timing and run 93 octane gas you will gane a couple of hp.

thats 14* after TDC

I am using 93 octane, gonna give it a tuen up regardless, and now what do u think is an open cone filter gonna be better then the stock air box?

What does it matter if its TDC or BTDC? Im just askin because I thought u could just loosen the distributor and rotate it to whatever degree (10-14) and u would be fine.

It's called "advanced" timing for a reason fellers. Advance = forward, and retard = back. You do the math.

if u are advancing your timing it is ATDC retard is BTDC..

if u hit the timing light u will see a 0 the hash markes before the 0 and hash markes after the 0... 0 = TDC thus is u want BTDC (before top dead center) or ADTC (after top dead center)
