rearend question!
The question is about an 87 GT mustang Automatic. Today I had to replace the u-joints on my driveshaft and bumped that large metal bracket that is bolted under the rearend behind the driveshaft. It felt lose and made noise so I tightend it as tight as I could and it still made noise. What is it for and will it hurt to remove it and not replace it?

RE: rearend question!
Are you talking about the damper bolted under the diff? I believe it quells some sort of vibraitons. If memory serves, I can wiggle mine a little bit. It almost feels like it's mounted on rubber. Maybe you should check on the torque specs to make sure you didn't make yours too tight. Let me know if you find out anything.
By the way, nice cars.

RE: rearend question!
yea I'm talking about the damper. I took it off and it has rubber bushings in it so I put it back on . Maybe it is some kind of support or even vibration damper? I would also like to know if removing it affected the ride of your mustang!
