Default still working on the same problem

i posted a while back about how i just got my car running and it was making alot of noise in the valve train and not idling right.

so i took the valve covers and intake off, checked the lifters and they were fine.

did the pre-load on the rocker arms (which i didnt do originally)

one thing i noticed after i did the rocker arms is their was excessive play between the rocker arm and pushrod. i know the rocker isnt suposed to be super tight on it and it has to be clearenced but this was quite a bit i think.

so i'm thinking the pushrods are too short?

i went from e5 heads to gt40p's. what size pushrod does a gt40p run because i used my pushrods off my E5's so i'm thinking thats what s wrong.

the car is idling better though still making all the damn noise it did before, i'm 98% sure thats what the problem is wtf else would it be honestly?

there should be 0 play between pushrod and rockers.

the lifters have a spring inside them that gets pushed down when you preload them.

yeah i realize that about the lifters. i push down on the rocker arm and the pushrod pushes into the hydraulic lifter. but when it comes back up like i said their is play between the rocker and the pushrod.

would this mean the pushrod is too short then?

spin the crank by hand then cheack again there should be no play in the rocker arm but you should be abl to spin/twis the push rod itself easyly.make sure you have no exaust leaks also.my friend thought he had a bad lifter or bent valve but i founf that noise to be a litlle leak at the header but sure made a lot of noise.

Try google....I don't know if the P heads require different length pushrods, but it is a possibility.

yes there should be no clearance between the rocker and pushrod, if the rockers are torqued and seated properly and you have clearance then the pushrods are to short. or you have some collapsed lifters. but more than likely the pushrods are just to short.

lifters arent collpased, thats what i thougth originally, ordered a brand new set and intalled them when i checked the old ones which were fine anyway, but for the hell of it incase i was missing something i replaced them.

yes i soaked them in oil first.

how would i go about finding out what length pushrod i need?
